Solving the pedophile problem

We have all read and heard about the horror story out of Montana. A convicted pedophile is released on bail, abducts two children, kills the rest of the family, repeatedly molests the two children and kills one of them before an alert waitress sees the surviving girl and notifies the police.

The sick tale of Joseph Edward Duncan III is horrifying. But, sadly, not an uncommon tale. How many times, over the years, are we presented with a sorrowful tale of a child, or children being abducted and killed by freaks who have been previously arrested for similar crimes?

Well, it's time we did something about this. It's a fact that pedophiles have the highest rate of recidivism among criminals, with studies quoting rates from a low of 40% to a high of 90%. So we have to take steps to ensure that these criminals are not given a chance to prey upon young children again.

And I present this plan: Upon their release, they get two choices. They can either submit to chemical castration, which is proven to work in lowering their desire to prey upon children, or they can live on Pedophile Island.

Pedophile Island will be a large, isolated island off the coast of the US. It will be ringed by a wall, and manned with guards. Generators will be run outside the walls to produce electricity for the pedophiles inside. They'll have shelter, food... all the comforts of the mainland. Heck, they can even vote. But they will be completely and permanently isolated from society. And it goes without saying that P.I. is a same-sex area.

There are numerous islands that would fit this requirement. Off the coasts of Maine, Massachusetts, California and Washington are numerous uninhabited islands. Let's fix one up and get going on this.

I'll be honest, I'd rather shoot them in the head and be done with it. But we aren't China. So I'll settle for a permanent solution that protects the children of America and doesn't violate the Constitution. Too often we have to read stories of convicted pedophiles that have been released only to prey upon children again. It has to stop.

Santorum! Try using your brain! (Oh right, you don't have one...)

I was born in New Hampshire, raised in Connecticut. I met my wife in Massachusetts and I live in Maine. Most of my relatives are from Rhode Island, including my parents. In short, I am as New England as they come, and the "big city" in my life was never New York, but Boston.

I. Love. Boston. For all its corruption, ridiculous traffic, lousy winters and the rest of it, I love that place like a fat kid loves cake.

So when I read that the Mighty Mental Midget, a.k.a U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (a fine specimen of current Republican leadership) took it upon himself to trash the Hub of the Universe, I couldn't sit idly by.

See, Sen. Halfwit said that the Catholic sex abuse scandal was a result of "promoting alternative lifestyles (which) spawns aberrant behavior" and that since Boston is a liberal city, it's no wonder that the scandal started here.

In other words, liberalism=pedophile priests.

Gee, that's nice. What's next? Democrats=puppy killers? How about working women=cannibal communists? How dumb is this guy?

It pains me even more b/c I am still (nominally) a Republican. I have yet to offically de-register. I keep hoping that the GOP will regain its sanity. Instead, we get a professional drunk like Tom Delay and a moron like Santorum leading the party.

His reasoning is so faulty, so completely bereft of logic, it staggers the mind. Has he ever BEEN to Boston?? If this is such a licentious city, why is the Combat Zone practically gone now? Why was "Banned in Boston" a regular way to promote the carnality of a motion picture for decades? Why is the divorce rate among the lowest in the nation??

Conversely, if conservatism=morality, why is the divorce rate higher in the South? Why is it, when I drive along I-95 in North Carolina, I see numerous billboards advertising for strip clubs??

And if conservatism=morality, why have more priests been defrocked by the Vatican in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (Sen. Santorum's stomping ground) than in the Archdiocese of Boston? Senator Santorum, perhaps you should direct your ire elsewhere, hmmm?

And perhaps you should also note that the drive to expose these pedophile priests began in Boston, so it would only go to reason that the scandal broke in Boston. Duh.

It's a good thing for this gibbering idiot there isn't an IQ requirement to be in the Senate. As that great philosopher Bugs Bunny said, "What a maroon!"

McClellan wants to show Rove the door

From a CNN story, dated 9/29/2003:

McClellan said that if anyone at the White House leaked Plame's identity, he should be fired, and pursued to the "fullest extent."

"No one was authorized to do this. That is simply not the way this White House operates and if someone leaked classified information it is a very serious matter," he said.

and
McClellan said he discussed the matter with Rove and feels confident that accusation of Rove's involvement is "simply not true."

And today: Rove told reporter about Plame’s role at CIA

Cooper, according to an internal Time e-mail obtained by Newsweek magazine, spoke with Rove before Novak's column was published. In the conversation, Rove gave Cooper a "big warning" that Wilson's assertions might not be entirely accurate and that it was not the director of the CIA or the vice president who sent Wilson on his trip. Rove apparently told Cooper that it was "Wilson's wife, who apparently works at the agency on [weapons of mass destruction] issues who authorized the trip," according to a story in Newsweek's July 18 issue.

So....I assume we'll see Rove getting fired any day now, right? Yes? Fired??
